Don’t Leave Your Wheels Out Of Your Car Wash Routine!

If there is one part of our cars that we often take for granted it is probably the wheels. They also happen to be one of the hardest working and often dirtiest parts of the vehicle. It is just as important to keep them clean and in good condition as the rest of the car. So here are some essential tips for when it comes to taking care of your wheels as part of your regular car washing schedule.

Know Your Wheels

There are a few different types of wheels that are common on cars these days and knowing which you have is important. Different types of wheels require different treatments.

For example, carbon fibre wheels need a milder cleaner than wheels made from an alloy or base metal. The kind of cleaner used for alloy wheels tends to be a powerful product designed to be tough on the dust, dirt and grime picked up on the road. Whereas products designed for carbon fibre wheels are a slightly gentler, general-purpose cleaner, still with enough power to break down dirt and dust.

Cleaning Your Car’s Wheels

Once you’ve got the right cleaner for your wheels it is time to get washing! It’s important to make sure that properly cleaning your wheels is a part of your regular car wash schedule as they get dirty quickly.

It is best to wash your car from top to bottom, so once the rest of your car is clean you can get to work on those wheels. Get your chosen cleaner to work and follow the instructions that come with that specific product. This can often include a bit of time with the cleaner sat on the wheel so it can work into the dirt.

Now you can get in there with a brush to really get the dirt and dust to lift. Make sure to get into any gaps and around the wheel nuts.

Once you’ve given the wheels a good scrub you can rinse them off. It is then time to dry them. Just like the rest of the car, if you want a good finish the wheels need to be properly dried with a clean microfibre cloth.

You can leave the wheel cleaning here if you want to but this is a great time to add a layer of protection. Using a specific wheel protector will make future cleaning all the easier!
